IBM to bring 800 new jobs to Baton Rouge

IBM Services Center Groundbreaking Ceremony
Gov. Bobby Jindal, state and local officials, and IBM executives celebrated the start of construction on the new IBM services center in downtown Baton Rouge as reported by Diana Samuels, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune (September 26, 2013).

IBM has committed to hire at least 800 people and/or provide a $38.6 million payroll in Baton Rouge (see related articles). These employees will provide software development and maintenance to U.S. clients. 100 employees have been hired to date and are working in working out of temporary offices.

AT&T Looks for Hundreds of New Employees in Louisiana
FOX8Live.com announced that AT&T has plans to hire more than 500 people to expand and enhance its wireless and wired networks; all 500 jobs will be located in Louisiana.
The majority of current openings will support the network expansion. Retail and call centers positions will also open.

AWG Spokesperson, Floyd Baker cited a slight delay in construction caused by Hurricane Isaac as the reason for the change (Chiri, 2012). Nevertheless, the new grocery distribution center is still on track to bring nearly 300 jobs to Pearl River in 2013.
The good news; you have two additional weeks to prepare your résumé .
The bad news; I won’t be able to attend, I’ll be on vacation in Texas.

How will Coach Payton fill his Résumé Gap?
As a card carrying member of the “Who Dat” Nation I am a little disappointed in the season opener against the Redskins and am worried about how Sean Payton’s absence will hurt the team.
But as a professional résumé writer I am wondering how “Bountygate” will affect Coach Payton’s career and how he will explain the season long employment gap on his résumé?
In today’s economy résumé gaps are understandable. However, it is important to try and fill your gaps. If unemployed, for longer than three months, think of ways to fill the time. Learn a hobby; perhaps one you could turn into a home based business, learn a new language, start a blog, volunteer, or take classes (learn something new or refresh your skills).
I like how Jacob Share, JobMob, explains his résumé gap in his blog post;

Now back to Sean Payton:
In this article by Mike Triplett, The Times-Picayune, Sean Payton talks about spending time with his children, Meghan and Connor; he is the offensive coach for his son’s sixth-grade football team – the Liberty Christian Warriors. Of course, he is also following football, the Saints especially closely; studying the game from afar and hoping this unfamiliar new perspective will inspire a few ideas.

Hurricane Isaac
I hope everyone survived Hurricane Isaac. We’re ok, only tree branches to pick up (thank God).
Some areas of the Northshore were not as fortunate; up to four feet of water in Old Town! And much of New Orleans is still without power.

Evacuteer.org is a non-profit organization that trains volunteers to assist residents in the event of a mandatory evacuation of the City of New Orleans.
The fund raising methods used to raise money for the 3D public art that will double as hurricane evacuation pick up point markers are awesome; classic New Orleans.

GE is coming to NOLA!
General Electric (GE) is opening a corporate office in New Orleans that will provide software development and information technology support. GE will hire approximately 300 IT professionals, with annual salaries of $60,000 to $100,000, within the next three years (White, 2012).
